it’s time to call Pegasus!
Jupiter Chuck Emergency, aka “The Impossible Turnaround”
Over the years as we’ve purchased and run Jupiter Machine Tool products, we’ve developed a strong rapport with their team. It was only natural, then, that when they had a do or die spare part fabrication emergency they called us first.
Jupiter’s customer ordered a high dollar custom heavy-duty vertical lathe chuck from a company in East Asia. Upon installation the chuck’s air-sensing – its key feature – was malfunctioning. With installation and run-off deadlines looming, Jupiter challenged Pegasus to manufacture replacement air-sensors from scratch.
Challenge accepted!
At a moment’s notice, Pegasus co-owner Ray Whitehead visited the customer’s facility to disassemble and analyze the sensor problem at the source with one of Jupiter’s principal engineers.
In the end Pegasus disassembled the sensor units, diagnosed the cause for their malfunction, created SolidWorks 3D models from CMM data captured on our five axis Zeiss, and successfully machined replacement parts in only 72 hours.
The air-sensor flaw in the chuck was not only fixed, but the new sensor manufactured by Pegasus was more robust and rugged – extremely important for a lathe used to machine cast iron.
